RISE offers an intersectional domestic abuse approach for men that is culturally informed.

RISE’s Culturally Integrated Family Approach (CIFA) is an intersectional domestic abuse approach for men that acknowledges the victim and perpetrator’s identities including race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and culture. It is a 16-20 session one-on-one intervention for men who have perpetrated abuse within their relationships.

Led by Barnet Council, this 13-borough service delivered by RISE provides sessions that are adapted to be culturally informed and responsive to the individual, and their family’s needs. This targeted, multi-faceted domestic abuse service for racialised, marginalised communities breaks down barriers for the victim/survivor accessing support and helps challenge and disrupt the abuse.

A specialist suitability assessment is carried out prior to the service to assess the individuals risks and needs and ensure our work can be tailored to them. The pre-intervention session is useful for those presenting high levels of denial in order to maximise engagement and ensure the best results. Each session is culturally informed and responsive to their learning needs; this includes neurodiverse individuals. The intersectional approach means multiple different elements of the person causing harm is considered such as gender, race, and religion.
