A course for young people aged 11-18 surrounding healthy relationships.
The Respect and Principles Programme (RAPP) focuses on healthy relationships for young people aged 11-18. It is an 8-session group work programme aiming to prevent the young people from becoming victim/survivors or people causing harm in the future. RISE provides education about healthy relationships, identifying patterns of healthy and unhealthy behaviour and effective ways to communicate relationship needs. To reduce the risk of harm we also focus on conflict resolution, identifying ways to manage it in a healthy and constructive way. RISE tailors the course for young people by observing the role of peer groups in young people’s decision making and challenging beliefs around gender roles and stereotypes.
To prevent future harm and risk, we provide the young people with communication and conflict skills, support, and resources to avoid, or end unhealthy or violent relationships. The group work means the service users learn collaboratively, rather than in isolation which is beneficial for young people to recognise there are others experiencing the same issues in intimate relationships. The overall aim is to prevent long-lasting negative physical and psychological effects on the young person if they experience violence or abuse in their relationships. RAAP also aims to:
- Explore their beliefs / views about what constitutes a healthy intimate relationship;
- Develop an understanding about the different forms of abuse that can take place within an intimate relationship;
- Practice approaches to enhance good communication skills that could be used in a relationship setting;
- Learn and practice new skills to identify emotional triggers;
- Increase their knowledge of problem solving;
- Understand the benefits of using assertive communication and positive self-talk.
