A tailored domestic abuse programme for LGBTQI+ people who have been abusive in their intimate relationships against their partner.

As part of our Culturally Integrated Family Approach (CIFA), RISE delivers Respectful Partnerships which is a one-to-one intervention for LGBTQI+ people, who have displayed medium-high risk abuse in their intimate relationships, identified through a specialist suitability assessment.

This programme forms part of a targeted, multi-faceted domestic abuse service for marginalised and racialised groups; we work with LGBTQI+ clients to address cultural or historical influences behind abusive behaviours. There are high numbers of under-reported abuse cases that occur in the LGBTQI+ community. This is due to a number of barriers, fear of stigma, or further exclusion. Therefore, our tailored approach helps to dismantle these impediments to increase support for all.

The bespoke sessions examine sexual identity, harmful behaviours, trauma discrimination and community influences. RISE endeavours to create a safe space where the aim is to reduce risk to the victim/survivor and create long-term behaviour change for the person causing harm. Practitioners will help service users to understand their harmful behaviours in their intimate relationships and the effect this has on the victim/survivor. Typically, trauma, discrimination, and relationship history have impacts on the service user so we encourage internal self-management and skills to change their behaviour to develop practical strategies for maintaining change.

LGBTQIA+ United Hearts Support group

RISE is thrilled to partner with Rainbow Communities CIO to co-facilitate an LGBTQIA+ United Hearts Support Group. The weekly sessions will be held from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesdays, on community premises in Kings Cross/St Pancras. The group is free and open to all LGBTQIA+ persons from Greater London. It will provide group support across cultures with a focus on supporting victims of domestic abuse, led by trained LGBTQIA+ group workers.
