A public service mutual, RISE “spun out” of London Probation in 2015, yet continued to deliver key probation services in London as well as assisting in delivery further afield. We have delivered several interventions to those in custody, including solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) approaches alongside CBT (STRIVE and READY) and a family focused intervention designed to increase integration on release.

Strive is designed for women who have suffered from trauma. Whilst the programme focuses on coping strategies and future planning, a key component is that all participants get the opportunity to have their story heard in the group (this is significant in helping them move forward).

The programme ultimately helps develop greater emotional resilience, and identifies helpful coping strategies that they can adopt. Strive involves a lot of focus on validation and affirmation, and helps to provide the external and internal validation that is so important in changing behaviour, helping achieve the intended outcomes.

The READY programme has been designed to be used as an intervention for offenders aged 18 and over who do not have, or acknowledge, trauma in their lives. The primary aim of the 2-day emotional resilience programme is to increase participant’s level of self-awareness in relation to their own needs and also enable facilitators to gauge suitability for other interventions.

The READY programme aims to help individuals prepare to engage in other therapeutic programmes, accredited offending behaviour programmes, education and training, substance misuse support and individual work. This is with a few to lowering attrition rates and maximise motivation levels prior to the offender starting the programme.

Today we are interested in delivery both in custody and in community, specialising in trauma and culturally informed approaches.

We offer training and consultancy to providers, assisting in the provision for specific needs including those with protected characteristics (ethnic minorities, neurodiverse, transgender etc), actively addressing behaviour and culture that impacts individuals and communities.
